Hi, Wondered whether you could supply me with an accurate date and identify the back-to-back power cars at Water Orton please. Any relevant info might help me solve a 30 year mystery. Thanks Kevin

My God they "were" the Days.I simply took these great blue booming giants for granted,I thought like the Child that I was that these Engines would be around for ever.I can remember the two times 1023 visited York I was there on bith occasions along with my Mates.I was proud of the Deltics I felt they were worthy of the visiting Hydraulic.I also thought that the ECML authorities wished that to stay as well.In time I of course became aware of what a utter expensive nightmare these mighty Locomotives were to keep running at the required level of availability.I also used to live three Doors down from a Gateshead Diesel Fitter. This man was not a fan of the 55s in the least. He informed me of the very very hard and dirty work it took to keep them running.Their very cramped Engine Rooms which were always very hot,as they would be required to go out again straight away. When he informed me the job of servicing their Radiators which involved lying on top of the Napier Engine while it was hot as it had just been shut down after runnning in from London or Edinburgh. However that is that and these Locomotives were the reason for my interest in the Railway system.I did think that their rundown was very harsh and more that a little sordid.I think that after all their hard work, and their total transformation of the ECML Trains from the Steam age to a line which was competative with the best in the Countr.British Rail owed them more than that!!!.
